Burned Biscuits - author unknown

When I was a kid, my Mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then. And I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work.

On that evening so long ago, my Mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage and extremely burnt biscuits in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed! Yet all my dad did was reach for his biscuit, smile at my Mom and ask me how my day was at school. I don't remember what I told him that night, but I do remember watching him smear butter and jelly on that biscuit and eat every bite!

When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my Mom apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits. And I'll never forget what he said: "Honey, I love burned biscuits."

Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if he really liked his biscuits burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said, "Your Momma put in a hard day today and she's real tired. And besides - a little burned biscuit never hurt anyone!"

Life is full of imperfect things and imperfect people. I'm not the best at hardly anything, and I forget birthdays and anniversaries just like everyone else. But what I've learned over the years is that learning to accept each other’s faults - and choosing to celebrate each other’s differences - is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship.

And that's my prayer for you today. That you will learn to take the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of your life and lay them at the feet of God. Because in the end, He's the only One who will be able to give you a relationship where a burnt biscuit isn't a deal-breaker!

We could extend this to any relationship. In fact, understanding is the base of any relationship, be it a husband-wife or parent-child or friendship!

"Don't put the key to your happiness in someone else's pocket..... keep it in your own."

So, Please pass me a biscuit, and yes, the burned one will do just fine. And PLEASE pass this along to someone who has enriched your life.

Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

A christian student at a public university in Georgia is being told that she must abandon her deep-held biblical beliefs or be expelled. To see more on this shocking story, click here.

It is hard to believe that in this nation that was founded on the principle of religious liberty, a public university would endorse, condone, and practice religious persecution. Public universities like this are no longer places of education, they are simply places of indoctrination.

Kids Say the Darndest Things...

This week, Art Linkletter passed away at the age of 97. He leaves behind his wife of 75 years and two daughters. For those of you too young to remember him, his show was on TV when I was a boy. Here is an excerpt from his book, Kids Say the Darndest Things that was based on stuff kids said on his TV show of the same title:

Gregory, aged five, announced to me that he'd like to advertise something on the program. When I inquired about his product, he replied:

"I want to sell my sister for half price. That's fifty cents!"
"What would you do with the money?" I blandly carried on.

"Buy a baby brother that'd be some fun for a change."
"Where would you buy him?"
"From my mother, of course. She's the one who produces them all."

Towel Day?!?

I had never even heard of "Towel Day" until one of my brothers sent me an e-mail about today being so designated. Apparently, the 25th of May is designated "Towel Day" in honor of the late author Douglas Adams who wrote, among other things, "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." However, as I looked into this a little, I surmise that towel day may be appropriate in this case: we should be crying for the soul of this man who will be spending eternity in Hell. According to the information posted regarding Mr. Adams, he was an avowed atheist - so much so that today's lead evangelist of atheism, Richard Dawkins, dedicated one of his books to him. It bewilders me that anyone can look and study the incredible beauty and wonder of the universe and not see the handiwork of the Creator.

"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the works of His hands." - Psalm 19:1

When I look up into the beauty of the star-filled sky, the words of that old hymn come to mind:
"O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder, consider all the worlds thy hands have made; I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, thy power throughout the universe displayed." This awe and wonder becomes even greater as I ponder and consider the way that the universe is so perfectly balanced and proportioned: how all of these things are lined up with such precision that they could have only come from an omniscient Creator.

"When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and stars, which You have ordained" - Psalm 8:3

The Lord has indeed blessed us and continues to bless us. He shows forth His amazing handiwork, if only we will open our eyes and see. However, we are living our lives in grave peril if we look upon these wonders and try to deny that there is a God that is Lord over all.

"The man who thinks hateful thoughts brings hatred upon himself. The man who thinks loving thoughts is loved...The man who sows wrong thoughts and deeds, and prays that God will bless him, is in the position of a farmer who, having sown tares, asks God to bring forth for him a harvest of wheat. He who would be blest, let him scatter blessings. He who would be happy, let him consider the happiness of others."

Why I am for global warming...

2 Peter 3:10-18 (NIV):

10But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.

11Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat. 13But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.

14So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. 15Bear in mind that our Lord's patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. 16He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

17Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position. 18But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

So yes, there will be global warming. However, it will not be man-made but will instead be God-made. What this passage tells us is that we should be looking forward to this and speeding its coming. So I have absolutely no fear of man-made global warming (or climate change) bringing destruction to the earth. God has promised that God-made global warming will bring about destruction to the heavens and the earth so that we, who call on Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, can enjoy a new heaven and new earth with Him forever.

Shuttle Launch

One of my brothers forwarded this photo to me. It was taken from the CR 210 bridge over the intracoastal waterway in Ponte Vedra, Florida (over 100 miles from the launch site). This was the last scheduled night-time launch of the space shuttle, February 8 of this year. The photographer used a tripod, and the exposure took several minutes in order to capture the full fire trail (that is why the stars appear as lines rather than dots).
