A great reminder for the New Year's Holiday...

Hi LORD!

A dear friend sent the greeting below in an email today:

While I agree with the majority of the things in the note above, I am not so sure that there are more of us who want the LORD in our lives than those who do not. When a majority of Mississippi voters decide that "choice" is more important than children, I cannot believe that people who truly believe in the God of the Bible are in the majority. When we celebrate, condone, and/or excuse adultery, fornication, and other various perversions that He calls evil, we cannot expect that He will turn a blind eye. When we say that it is ok for same-sex couples to marry under the sanctions and blessings of our government, we are in open defiance of the LORD. When we as a nation embrace the notion of sodomites serving in our military, we are clearly a stench in the nostrils of The Most Holy God. When we consume more than we produce and thus incurr tremendous amounts of debt, we are deceived and lost. When we allow our children to be taught that things God says are wrong are right, and things God says are right are wrong, we have turned our backs on Him and are inviting judgment. The once-great U.S.A. has become Sodom and Gomorrah, and is deserving of God's righteous wrath.

We as a nation do not deserve the LORD's blessings, but his curses. When we bless what He curses, how can we ask Him to bless us?

So the question is, how do we turn this around? Let's see what the LORD says about it...

"if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." - 2 Chronicles 7:14

If we want our nation to be healed and once again enjoy God's blessings, we must as a nation humble ourselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from our wicked ways. Only then will He hear from heaven, forgive our sin, and heal our land.

Wireless pool!! I kind of prefer it that way...

On a more serious note, the sign above comes from the photo shown below that I took last week in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida (less than 100 yards from the Gulf of Mexico). I was there looking at this pedestrian crossing location on Gulf Boulevard. Gulf Boulevard has had numerous problems with pedestrian crashes, and the Florida DOT is working to try to improve pedestrian safety on the corridor. One of the things they have done, is to install these crosswalks with lots of signs and other things to make the pedestrians more visible. One of the things is the use of flags to help people cross the road. At the left in the picture is a bucket with little bright yellow-green flags (with reflective strips on them for night time visibility too). Someone who wants to cross the road just grabs a flag, waives it to help approaching motorists see them so that the motorist can yield to the pedestrian in the crosswalk (as required by law), crosses the road and drops the flag off in the bucket on the other side of the road (just out of the picture here). Unfortunately, people (like the ones shown in the picture) choose not to use the crosswalks and just cross where ever they like...no wonder there are so many pedestrian crashes in the area. We do all that we can to create a high-visibility place for people to be seen crossing the road, and people don't use it. Please remember when you are crossing the road, be safe and be seen.
